A lot of people like the second couple better than the main couple (and they were sexier) but because of the issue you mention I just couldn’t get into them.

I liked the series for the charm though it was heavily tropey. Samantha and Rachel are icons now and ‘You know I have no Chingu’ cry is iconic as well. In a short scene the girl is portrayed as a poor little rich girl. The glasses off kissing scene was another wow moment. The freshness of the actors and some wow scenes made this fun, the end dragged a little for me.
Interesting insights. In terms of timing, Business Proposal seemed on the beginning edge of this new? wave of Western interest in K-dramas. And as it was developed by Netflix it felt more American in style to me in the way it dealt with the sex scenes just by the fact that it had them, for starters. I personally appreciated the way other shows that came after like King the Land, My Dearest and even Love to Hate You addressed consent and female empowerment in a more modern context.
I think that's one of the reasons that so many people who were not accustomed to K-dramas latched onto this one. Many of my friends (non K-drama watchers) were telling me how much they loved it, saying it was the best show they've seen in a while. And while I didn't agree with them, I did like that they were watching shows not made in Hollywood.
Was surprised at what a hit this was. I didn't think it as anything special. I am so tired of seeing K-drama couples engaging in sex while drunk. A lot of times both of them will wake up with no memory of what happened. That's especially sad when it's someone's first time. I think it's just a way to deny responsibility.
Accountability, or the lack thereof. I may dislike these storylines even more than I do the ones where the child was abused by their parents, but are expected to forgive them (or donate their organs to them in some instances) because of filial piety.
I remember watching an old episode of Law and Order SVU (clearly not a K-drama, lol!) where Elliott and his wife, Cathy, were discussing consent. They had apparently hooked up in college when both had been drinking beer. Elliott is worried that he didn't get her consent. And she tells him that she had drunk a lot, just as he had, but she was aware of what was going on and wanted to have sex with him. There is a fine line. Back then (in the '90s or whatever), we didn't know better. Now we do.
Hi jae ha love your critique on business proposal I personally loved the show it really introduced me to Ahn hyo seop and his shows I loved it and to be honest I liked the main lead more than the second lead because that part in episode 6 made me uncomfortable and it shown the same in webtoon. Plus in abyss that hyoseop stared in spoiler alert one of the episodes where he and his lover were drunk together no sex instead they forced his mom to sleep in his bedroom another thing is that in episode 9 where his love interest asked his consent I was like awww that’s sweet of her and it makes me smile when a woman asks for a consent. Keep up with an amazing work.
I love Business Proposal!! The Konglish cousin was so freaking funny and I was definitely more interested in the best friends relationship journey instead of the leads, even though I agree with your consent critique, missed opportunity.
I watched this during my Ahn Hyo-seop binge of everything he ever did. The story did lack in several aspects. However, I soldiered on because Ahn Hyo-seop is Dangerous. ;;))

I'm with you 100% that Tae-moo had no business being in a relationship and would take it a step further that when I look at the chart of the drama none of the characters really had any business* 😆 being in one.
Re: Ahn Hyo-Seop- I loved him as a supporting cast member in SBS's 서른이지만 열일곱입니다 (Still 17) and can't decide whether my favorite role of his is in tvN's 어비스 (ABYSS) or SBS's 낭만닥터 김사부 2/3 (Dr. Romantic 2/3)...but I'll be back to say more later!

I enjoyed this show and then it started to drag a bit. I watched it once and that was enough.
