I watched this for the first time last month (and then immediately watched it twice more; just a little hyperfixated, lol). Absolutely loved it. It was my first introduction to Shin Ha-kyun, and he was just fantastic. Adored the cinematography and the editing, too. All those close-ups and angles? Fantastic. If I hadn't fallen in love with "The Guest" ages ago, this would be my favorite kdrama, hands down.
Shin Ha-kyun is such an amazing actor, which is why I never knew where this show was going! lol Without even saying a word, his facial expressions spoke volumes.
Just finished a binge watch of The Wonderfools. It’s a fun romp! I think Park Eun-bin is masterful in this series. She took a role that could have been a caricature and portrayed Eunie as a warm, endearing and very funny person. Hope you live this one too.
I will circle back when I have finished it. I've been looking for a new KDrama, I've been watching the same ones over & over. But also, so many of the new ones are on Netflix, which I refuse to pay for, so I can watch some on Prime, Viki, or Plex for free (but not many). I would like to see 'The Scarecrow' because it has two actors who were in one of my favs, "Legend of the Blue Sea", Park Hae-soo & Lee Hee-jun, but it isn't free to watch.
(Tone: Sincere) I knew there was a drama I kept itching to remember and you hit it right on the nose with JTBC‘s February 2021 괴물(Beyond Evil)! Believe it or not- both dramas have a Saturn-Mercury conjunction in the 4th house (BE‘s Mercury is retrograde) highlighting those anvil-on-your chest, teeth-grinding, locked mouth, and among much else fist squeezing moments. Thank you 🙏🏼 for easing my mind as I couldn‘t come up with BE (for whatever reason 🤷♀️).
While I‘m enjoying more dramas from the 2nd quarter of the year I can‘t say I‘m particularly ‚wowed‘ yet…but I‘m a tough critic at times. I do think the Andy Lau references were 🤭, the directing is top, acting is wonderful, and the script well written.
One thing that worries me is continuing to see talented 문우진 (Moon Woo-Jin), who plays teen Cha Si-Young seemingly being typecast into brutal/bullying/bullied character roles…but that‘s just me worrying about emotional/mental well-being of the actors we cherish…
As always- Love your writing and appreciate you! 🤗💜🖤✌🏼
Yeah, I'm glad I refreshed your memory with Beyond Evil! That's fascinating about the Saturn-Mercury conjunction. Of course, I had no idea about that when I wrote this. So thank you for bringing that up.
As for Moon Woo-jin, I understand your worries. But I'm also glad he's not being typecast as the class heartthrob/popular kid. He's getting a lot of experience delving into roles that are difficult to portray - and this will serve him well when he's grown up and landing leading men roles. One of my favorite roles of his is when he portrayed the child version of Park Seo-joon's character in What's Wrong With Secretary Kim.
It's my favorite show of the year and I almost didn't watch it because I wasn't sure if I'd get too scared OR if the show would veer into goofy-land. But it hooked me from the get go!
I watched the show. It was pretty good. Women were rare in the entire show, which to me is strange because they’re at least 45% of the Korean population. Plus we all know that women are running most of things with guys getting the credit for it. I try to avoid shows that don’t have a good number of women acting. What type of world is that? Certainly not one that I want to spend much time in. The storyline was OK. It won over Flower of Evil at the Baeksangs and I’m still a little bitter about it. My guess is coma and amnesia scenes will not get you the points you would need to get an award. A decision was made.

I’ve watched it twice through. Loved it both times.
Yeah, there are certain shows that are multi-watch dramas, for sure!

I have put this on my watchlist.
I'd be curious to know what you think of it! There were parts I loved and parts that I found maddening. But over all, I really enjoyed the process.

The Scarecrow looks like my cup of tea, I’ll watch it on Viki! Thank you!
