What a fantastic list!! Parasite is such a magnificent film, so expertly made. I remember being floored that a Korean movie won best picture. I never thought I'd ever see that in my lifetime.
If I may recommend a Korean film that is dear to my heart, it's "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring." Such an evocative, strange movie. It's been decades since I saw it, yet I remember so many scenes so vividly.
Happy Oscars! Fingers crossed for Celine Song, who absolutely has a chance here.
I was also astonished to learn that neither Teo Yoo nor Greta Lee spoke Korean natively!?!?! They totally sold me! Very convincing in every which way. :)
Yeah, Teo was born in Germany. His first language was German. His second was English (he went to college in the U.S. and England). And his third language is Korean. He moved to Korea in 2008, I believe, after he realized he wouldn't be getting meaningful roles as an Asian man in the U.S. Have you seen him in Justin Chon's SEOUL SEARCHING? He was very good in that ensemble cast. And Greta was born in the U.S. and I'm sure spoke Konglish like many of us did growing up. I love how her Korean in PAST LIVES is clearly that of a gyopo, while Teo's is that of a Korean-Korean man. They both did great!
Never heard of Seoul Searching, but I just looked it up and a review describes as it as '“The Breakfast Club” set in rural Korea' -- SOLD! It looks goofy and good, I'll check it out, thanks!
I was thinking Greta was doing a valley girl version of Korean, but gyopo is right on. I bet she worked on that lilt with her language coach. :)

Oh, a great choice, Sung. Kim Ki-duk never fails to deliver thought-provoking films that remain with you!
I am sooooo hoping for Celine Song to win. What a coup that would be for Korean diaspora, too!
I have an article about PAST LIVES that should be out tomorrow or Saturday. That film gave me so much to think about. Gorgeous.

Good list, but I loved My Sassy Girl.
I also enjoyed SUNNY and MISS GRANNY and so many others.
