I was so glad that Jung Chae-Yeon finally had the chance to really shine in a starring role (I thought she was good but not great in My First First Love, but didn't feel any chemistry with ML & I kind of lost interest in Golden Spoon). I remember watching her years ago in a short drama called To:Jenny thinking that she had a lot of charm, but her full acting range came out so well in this show! Her brothers and the dads in this show were amazing too! Such a great cast!
I really enjoyed the entire cast as well. I'll admit, I remember her performance in My First First Love, but had forgotten that she was even in Golden Spoon. 😆
(Tone: Sincere) I enjoyed this drama; yet, while I wanted to love it there were a few other things that I wish had been done differently. [Aside: the dramas that aired in that time-frame all dealt with healing ancestral/familial wounds in the backdrop and I think the romance between the leads took away from that, but I digress.]
I was more involved with analyzing the adults in this drama than the children (as adults). When the children were young I think I cried for all of them multiple times…it’s the children who suffer most when the wounds of the parents are used as weapons- no matter if they have good intentions or not.
This drama was a milestone drama for me- 750th since March 2020…so it has a special place with me…even if it isn’t my favorite.
As always- thank you for writing & sharing!!! 💜🖤✌🏼
I had a big problem understanding most of the parents/adults in this show. They caused all the issues, but the children were expected to deal with it because it was supposedly for their own good or some such nonsense.
I love that you love Korean shows so much that you watch so many of them. I know quite a few people who watch K-dramas as their preferred viewing of choice. But I don't know anyone who keeps as meticulous track of what they've seen as you!!
Also... I loved how Reply 1988 focused on the parents as well as the teens. The writers did a really great job in showing why they were the way they were, the good and the bad.
(T:Happy) Re: Keeping track of shows- I think my meticulousness is because of my infinite passion for them & since they are a part of the main sections of my vocations.
[Aside: I previously worked as a production administrator until 2018 in independent film/tv & am back in, albeit in a different capacity since 2023- for which I have Kdramas to thank!]
Korean shows came into my life in the most beautiful way- it was on my birthday no less! There is much to be said (I’ll share the longer story if you’re interested- but for now I’ll keep it short):
The world was topsy-turvy, I had returned from France from my uncle’s funeral a few weeks prior (not even a year after my other uncle passed…I remember being on the plane on my birthday in 2019…balling my eyes out) and I just wanted to watch something- anything* that would bring me peace. That’s when I opened up Netflix & tvN’s 2019 사랑의 불시착 (Crash Landing On You) poster popped up. I was immediately mesmerized by Son Ye-Jin & Hyun Bin.
[Aside: I knew 1/2way through the first watch they’d get married IRL…don’t ask me how I know- 2 things I’ve always been frighteningly good at is if a couple will get married & if someone is pregnant…I guess I’m spooky lol but I digress.]
In any case, didn’t even know it would be in Korean! I ended up watching it back to back 3x! The 2nd time as soon as it ended & the 3rd time with my parents. That’s the short version! 😂
Re: Reply 1988- 💯 yeees!!! Fabulous directing, writing, acting, all around! A ♊️⬆️ (like myself) ♍️Moon ♏️Sun drama with a Virgo Stellium (more than one planet in a sign) specifically Moon, Jupiter, Mars, & Venus focused on family, friends, early life/childhood/young adult years- making it one of the very best there is!! It has remained in my rotating top 10 favorites since I saw it in 2020! 🥰
(T: Sincere) Thank you for taking the time to exchange with me!!! It’s always a pleasure to share & exchange with you! 🤗💜🖤✌🏼
P.s. I think I jinxed the weather with my previous comment! 😆🙃🤦♀️
Just finished watching this show. It was at its best with the three musketeers. Poor San Ha clearly had to grow up well before that of eight if he makes ramen for himself. His parents were just awful. The other two adults were at least being over-protective.
I’m a huge fan of both Choi Moo Sung and Choi Won Young and was thrilled to hear they were starring as single fathers in this remake of Go Ahead. It took me some time to get used to the leads because I adored Song Weilong and Seven Tan (and Steven Zhang). Compared to the Chinese drama, Family by choice felt a wee rushed. Especially the romance between the parents. I wish they were shown interacting more. However, the slip and catch scene between Choi Won Young and Baek Eun Hye was simply perfect.
The people I've heard from on social media who watched the Chinese series followed by the Korean remake didn't think the Korean version was as good. I've only watched the Korean version, but now am wondering if I should carve out some time for Go Ahead. (Though some of the complaints I've read about the latter is that it dragged on for too long. Can't please everyone!)

And wow, 750. Woo hoo! Have a great weekend!
(T:Sincere) Re: Parents- exactly! It was hard to watch truthfully!
Re: 750- the # just keeps rising 🙃 I’m already closing in on 800…sometimes I wonder if I actually sleep 😂
Wishing you and yours a fabulous weekend as well! 💜🖤✌🏼
(Hopefully snow free…we’ll see! 🤞🏼)

I wish there had been more than one episode with the kid versions of the trio. They were so delightful!
So cute. Something with San Ha doing what he does as a young adult, aka looking out for the two of them, would have been nice.

The parents though…. Ugh.

It was draggy! I loved it only in parts- single fathers, attention to details and the three young leads. I’m not sorry I watched it though.
