There is a limit to my courage so I'm so happy to read your reviews of both Squid Game and The Crucible! Miss Granny made me cry just reading your words and will definitely watch that one. Sunny was amazing, there is an intimacy to the childhood friend groups in Korea that makes my heart ache or maybe it's a wish enacted on screen, a romanticizing of an alternate life.

PS. Kim Soo Hyun = King of Cameos!

I really enjoyed Sunny as well! Childhood friendships are such a big part of so many Korean films and dramas because it resonates with people, even those of us who may not have had those kinds of relationships.

Given the two, Squid Game is 'easier' to watch than The Crucible, because we know that these games are fake. But what happened in The Crucible is real.

I d k, that's just what Dramacool labeled it, so that's what I put in my Google drive database of 268 watched kdramas of the last 7 years

I've watched it as both, but the proper Korean title is 도가니, which translates to crucible. When it was first released in the U.S., it also opened as "The Crucible" (https://www.korea.net/Events/Overseas/view?articleId=1017). They changed it to "Silenced" later for streaming markets outside of SK (as you can see from the trailer I've embedded in this newsletter) and I'm not sure how I feel about that, to be honest.

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it! And happy holidays! ☃️❄️🏂

Who labeled it 침묵하다? Are you implying that The Crucible is the incorrect title? What point are you trying to make?
