I wanted to thank you for recommending this series, it was indeed truly wonderful and I enjoyed it very much. A wonderful cast, a wonderful story, a wonderful soundtrack, this is genuinely quality TV.
It’s currently available in the U.S. on Viki, KOCOWA and Prime Video (but I think you need their KOCOWA subscription via Prime). I'm not sure if it'll be on Netflix...
Mr. Sunshine!! first kdrama I ever watched and haven't stopped since. Thank you for the much needed show suggestion. I seem to have found myself in a lull ;(. Can't wait for your list!! BTW, I would love to hear your thoughts, take, etc on Korea and its "drugs are so epically terrible" stance. It is a curious thing to me that I can only frame it in a nationalist context that we (US-muli-national) do not get to experience. There is not the same sense of "us" as a people no matter what the racist, xenophobes try to convince people of. We just do not have that history or reality. So..yea I would love to hear your actual thoughts on this vs my made up ones 😉
This is one of the historical dramas I started when I first got into K-Dramas...but I haven't finished it yet. Back then, I think I wasn't ready for the tragedy that some historical dramas do bring about. But now, I feel like I should finish it, especially after reading your post about it.
I get it. I honestly have to be in the mood before I start a sageuk. I was also really squeamish during the torture scenes in the first episode, so that also put me off a bit initially.
I love this drama! I was probably the only one who rooted for Min-hwa and Yeom in the story but it is a testament to the writer's ability to make her supporting characters really relatable (she wrote Twinkling Watermelon recently and viewers loved it!).
I liked Yeom and Min-hwa as adults, but she was just too much to take as a little girl. LOL!
I still remember everyone (who I watched this with) gasping when Im Si-wan made his entrance with a halo/sunshine emanating from him. Incredibly beautiful!
And this was before the age of streaming sites... I remembered watching this from streaming links we could find on Twitter - unsubbed!😂 Oh the dedication. Haha.

Yes! My friends and I had a borrowing circle we started in 2006. We'd buy our favorites, then lend them out. Worked beautifully. I still have a whole shelf in my living room. Started with the Endless Love series - Winter Sonata was my gateway series. I think the last one I bought was either Prosecutor Princess or Coffee Prince. Then I finally moved to DVD borrowing from Netflix and now streaming... Although those dates are off. Oh...I really don't remember the order5 now. But I keep them on the off chance I'll go back on a trip down memory lane...
And OMG you were on Netflix during the days when you could rent DVDs through them... Me, too! I can't believe they kept that service going until just a month or two ago...
I was wondering if you have a review of The Master's Sun by any chance. I would be interested in your views on that series, if you have.
I have reviewed it. It was a 2.5/4 star series for me. You may read the review here: https://www.jaehakim.com/2016/01/the-masters-sun/

I'm so glad, Marjolein! It's one of my all-time favorites!
I am a K- drama fan is this in Netflix or it is coming soon to Netflix?

I don't live in Korea, so I can't talk much about drug use there, but this article explores some of what you're asking about and mentions that the age range is getting younger as the drug prices get cheaper: https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/2023/04/16/national/socialAffairs/korea-drugs-meth/20230416090003896.html

Kids today don't know how good they have it... 😛
OMG I have this on DVD - when I used to have to order KDramas from Yes Asia. Loved this back in the day.
It's one of my favorites! Do you have other K-dramas on DVD as well?!
