So good to see you review these two dramas! Navilerra was a sweet story and I appreciated the poignant issues they dealt with like aging, Alzheimer's and generational relationships. It was a nice change from the standard love tropes to see two men grow to care for each other as a father/son relationship.
I'm sad you only gave Encounter 2.5 stars. I can see your points, but I appreciated how the characters were written. She was beaten down and he saw her for who she was. He was a kind, hard worker and passionate person which she appreciated as valuable qualities. For me it's a comforting love story without a lot of drama. It was my first Park Bo Gum show, so it holds some extra fuzzies in my heart because of that too. But, yeah, why did they keep calling him a kid?! 😂
Both dramas moved at a slower pace than some viewers liked. That's a common complaint that I saw on social media. But I enjoyed how neither show rushed through the plot. It was nice to settle in and watch is unfold.
I was so surprised by Navillera. It didn't sound like something I would like, but once I started watching it, I loved it. Song Kang is a really good actor. He was so believable as a ballerino. The two main actors make the drama work. Patience is required. Deok-Chul was adorable.
There are so many people who are experiencing what it is like to live with a loved one who is losing/has lost their memory. That Deok-Chul was able to remember for as long as he did was so very touching. Such a beautiful series. Very, very lovely.
Oh, I may need to give “Encounter” another go. Started it, but the male lead was too bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to handle more than one episode. Little did I know that he was the stunning Park Bo-gum who plays roles so beautifully and sensitively in everything else I’ve seen him in!
And yeah, what is it about the male leads (and/or fathers) doing what they think is best for the female lead without even discussing it beforehand, or deciding to keep it a secret (it’s almost like they know they did wrong). One of the rare things that annoy me about KDramas.
Thank you for these reviews. I have not seen Navilerra, but I will now. And I also like Encounter more than you did, it was beautifully made. I loved the art and it had sweetness in all the right places for me. Although I agree about the men knowing better! In these worrying times, I mostly avoid the news and seek out positive stories of joy and restoration. Proper ostrich-like!
"Proper ostrich-like!" I love it, Marjolein. Thank you for taking the time to read my reviews!
I really do enjoy reading how shows affect people, even those (especially those?!) who saw something in them that I didn't. It's those differences that (sometimes) draw us together. Have a great weekend!
On Thursday I made japchae while listening to the Beatles and it was the happiest i had felt in weeks. Don't underestimate the power of making delicious, beautiful food!
My self-care in these utterly insane times - other than my usual fix of K-pop & K-drama - has been the discovery of the world of possibilities inherent in the process of the slow cooker. I'm making things these last few months that I never thought I could do - from various Indian and Thai curries, to dishes like Hawaiian chicken, Korean beef & chicken cacciatore with tortellini & garlic bread. All only using fresh ingredients and various spices. My cooking skills (which used to be non-existent) have gone aespa-next-level!:)
That's fantastic, Jude! I use our crock pot quite a bit. There's something very satisfying about putting the ingredients in in the morning and voila! Dinner is ready a few hours later!
I just recently finished this and loved it very much. I thought the ending was brilliant and Song Kang (who isn’t my favorite) showed true joy at the railroad tracks, tying in with previous moments in the drama where they dance for each other in moments of need. Despite the heavy load of the topic, the show was gentle and kind and full of joy.
Hang in there, Jae...hold on for dear life!! That's what I'm doing. :( We are definitely on the darkest timeline...
Thanks, Sung. I don't think this is what our parents envisioned when they decided to immigrate to 미국 (the beautiful country).

Very good point. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something slower, but not always. I can see why that would be a negative for some.
Same! I have to be in the right mood!
Have a great rest of your day, Sarah!

Encounter wasn't my favorite of his, but he's such a great actor that I think it is worth a watch.
The whole thing about the men taking control annoys me beyond belief. UGH!

That sounds so lovely! We made mayak eggs and dooboo jorim and they tasted so good and comforting!

I loved the ending so much. It was real and relatable and a fitting finale to a beautiful story.
