(Tone: Sincere) Thank you for yet another wonderful article! 🙏🏼 My sentiments re: tvN’s 2022 월수금화목토 (Love in Contract) mirror yours. I remember some people raved about it & others didn’t care for it much and I belong to the latter group.
Re: the dramas/films you’re watching - 대도시의 사랑법 (Love in The Big City 2024) the drama outshines the movie imho. (Given drama/films were released roughly just under a month 1/2 apart the astrological themes at play highlight different aspects I.e. give off a different vibe.)
re: MBC’s 지금 거신 전화는 (When The Phone Rings)- I agree it’s off to a good start- 유연석 (Yoo Eon-Seok’s) Paik Sa-Eon is the epitome of a ♌️⬆️Mars- ♒️Pluto opposition & I’m curious to see when people will start calling out his relentless ego paired with a broody & manipulative dominance/control complex. Then again- as captives of hormones many might ignore his flaws as they swoon over his mesmerizing good looks (or maybe not 🤷♀️).
Re: other dramas- tvN’s 사랑은 외나무다리에서 (Love Your Enemy) is off to a great start as well! I’m so happy to see 정유미 (Jung Yu-Mi) in a drama again (it’s been 2 years…but at least I saw her in Jinny’s Kitchen S1&2 and Wonderland back in June)!
Anyway- I’ve rattled on enough 🙃 Thank you again for a great article and for indulging my words! 🙏🏼🤗💜🖤✌🏼
Scarlett! I was hoping you'd comment! haha LOVE IN CONTRACT had the potential to be a really great show. All the elements were there, until they weren't.
I was laughing about your Yoo Yeon-seok comment because, same... I often wonder how viewers would react if some of the most problematic protagonists were played by average looking 아저씨. We wouldn't be so quick to forgive them for their behavior if they looked like our dad's friends. (I'm guilty of this, too!)
(Tone: Happy & Touched) Oh! What a lovely thing to say re: hoping I’d comment 😊- thank you for brightening my day!!! 🙏🏼 It’s such a joy to read your words & exchange with you!! 🥳😇 🤗
Re: Love in Contract- 💯 perfectly put!!!
Re: WTPR & Yoo Yeon-Seok* (I triple checked this time 😂🤣) comment- glad you got to laugh (I laughed after writing- didn’t want to break my “tone” 🤭)! Sadly, given the status quo of our times I believe that if the problematic characters were played by the “average looking 아저씨“ as you said then people would be quicker to call them out. It goes hand in hand with the phrase, “sex sells,” which is just as harmful as, “boys will be boys” imho…but (Tone: Facetious) yay low-vibe capitalism & patriarchy 🙄
(Tone: Reflective) Further, your point makes me think about how 변우석 (Byeon Woo-Seok) was…as talented as he is…seriously miscast in JTBC’s 2023 힘쎈여자 강남순 (Strong Girl Nam-Soon) as Ryu Si-O. However, it goes to show us all what networks/production teams value at any given time…although, it’s not a completely fair statement TBT, but I digress.
Re: we wouldn’t be so quick to forgive them…if they looked like our dad’s friends- 🤣😂🤣 so true!! (Tone: Silly- going for the laugh) although…wait…which friend? 🤣🤭🙃 (Tone: Clarifying) Just a joke!
(Tone: Sincere) It’ll be interesting to observe the reactions to WTPR the coming weeks!! 💜🖤✌🏼
I knew who you meant and I am the Queen of Typos, so I will not be judging anyone's spelling! FWIW, my phone still wants to auto correct my own name to Jar-Ha...so there you go!
(Tone: Grateful) 🙏🏼 I’m relieved to have your understanding! (Tone: Sincere) (Plus, I trust you know that if I make a mistake AND catch it* …not always the case…I’ll come back to correct it. However, when it comes to run-ons and comma splices …😬🙃 it’s the internet 🤷♀️ but I digress!)
Re: your phone wants to autocorrect your name 😱🤦♀️ that must be frustrating; fortunately, you have a good sense of humor about it! 😎😇💜🖤✌🏼
Oh man, I remember watching this one. I had so many questions by the end! 😅 For the most part it was enjoyable and I liked the chemistry between the main leads. The celebrity third wheel was a bit much though.
Kang Hyung-seok is turning into a really fascinating character actor— the three series I've seen him in, his characters were as varied as sweet-natured cop (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), creepy stalker (Do-Do-Sol-Sol-La-La-Sol), and an otherwise gentle, unassuming man who has the spine to be gay in a society as conservative as that of South Korea's.
He does such a great job of disappearing into each role.
I know this is an aside from the point of your article— this was one of those series I was sort of lukewarm on and that's considering I adore Go Kyung-pyo and will watch him in just about anything.
Barb, those are such great reflections on Kang Hyung-seok's amazing acting abilities. I look forward to seeing him in more roles in the future, for sure!
I know how you feel, which is why my rating wasn't higher. I felt like it ran its course early in the show and then just kept going on for a bit too long. But I really enjoyed the cast, who did a great job with what they were given.

I mean, there are worse things to be called than "Jar," so I'm OK with it... lol 😂

I hear you! Overall, I enjoyed it, but felt it went on for a tad too long!

Totally agree on the drinking business.
It is just too much.
