Jae, thanks so much for writing about The Rose! Any musician who shares two syllables out of three of my own name is aok by me! ๐ I kid, of course, these young men are top notch talents no matter what their names may be. Just listened to Sorry - it is every bit as excellent as you have said. It's funny that they were going to open for Halsey before COVID; one of my favorite songs of hers is... Sorry:
True story: when I write "Woosung," your name pops up in my mind! I have family members whose names are very similar to both your names as well. I love it! And yes, a back-to-back "Sorry" sing off would have been so great. ๐ค
It truly is. It's so simple and yet so important. I feel like in so many ways, they write songs that are confessionals...but also songs thatgently prod listeners to look out for themselves, too.
Thanks for writing up The Rose. I saw what you posted, heard another review of their concert at the Vic and started listening to them today. They're great!
I discovered Woosung through Agust Dโs song Snoozeโhis vocals were hauntingly beautiful.
It was your Rollingstone article that really introduced me to The Rose. Now I have their songs on my Spotify playlist and The Rosarium downloaded on my phone.
Why was I up at midnight watching Woosung nearly burn out his blender trying to make a smoothie? ๐ (He needs a Nutri Auto iQ 24 oz. 3-Speed Black High Speed Single Serve Blender.)
I turned my kids onto The Rose too. Last night my youngest called as they were driving home to tell me they were listening to Alive. Their sister and I started laughing because we were watching Woosung and The Rose videos on YouTube when they called. At 1AM.
I love their music but your interview gave me my first glimpse into who they are as people. Thatโs what really won me over.
Katttttt! That Woosung-blender-smoothie video was hysterical! I have my mother's old Oster (I think) blender from maybe the 1980s and that thing still works well. Woosung's looked much too delicate to get the job done properly. LOL
More importantly, I love helping introduce talented artists to readers. So I'm really glad that my Rolling Stone piece on The Rose helped do that for you.
They're skipping Chicago on this tour, too, because they played at Lollapalooza and the Lolla Aftershow the following night...and were worried it would be overkill to play here again. Sigh...

They could have sung one after the other, and no one would be sorry about that! ๐

That line in "she's in the rain" is THE BEST. I literally have it on a post-it on my desk and may have mentioned it once or twice to clients.

I'm so glad! I've liked their music for a while and it makes me so happy to watch them soar!

Now if theyโd just come to Atlanta...
